New series of work created for a group show 'Absent Authors' of eight contemporary artists united by the idea that every artwork contains the trace of the absent author, curated by Robert Fitzmaurice (artist and curator).

The complexity of postcolonial Hong Kong and its evolving relationship with mainland China, is inextricably linked to its changing perception of identity and nationalism. In my work I reflect on the dissociation of social, cultural and political identity between Hong Kong and China, and explore the hidden boundaries that can define and influence the notion of a national identity.

I explore the idea of these hidden boundaries through the Chinese language - the evolution of the traditional and simplified writing systems, or the use of spoken Cantonese and Mandarin can be considered metaphors for the changing cultural values and identities in Hong Kong and China. The Chinese language in both its written and spoken form, has become a political battlefront that is also symptomatic of the hidden boundaries that exist between Hong Kong and mainland China.
